Short Biography

George Spanoudakis is Professor of Computing and Associate Dean (Research) of the School of Informatics of City University London. He holds a BSc degree in Informatics (Athens University of Economics & Business Science, 1988), an MSc degree in Advanced Methods in Computer Science (Queen Mary College-University of London, 1989) and a PhD in Computer Science (University of Crete, 1994). Prior to his current post, George Spanoudakis had been a lecturer (1997-99), senior lecturer (1999-2004) and reader (2004-06) at City University. He had also been the Head of the Department of Computing at City from 2004 to 2007 and held visiting posts at the University of Crete (1999), London School of Economics (1999), University of Essen (2001) and University of Malaga (2008).

Professor Spanoudakis is the founder and director of the Software Engineering Group in the Department of Computing at City. His current research focuses on service-oriented computing and software systems security. In the former area, he is interested in the assessment of trust and management of compliance of service based systems with regulatory frameworks and customer requirements and the related theme of management of service level agreements. He is also interested in the development of advanced proactive adaptation capabilities for service-based software systems (e.g., proactive software service discovery and proactive negotiation of service level agreements). He is also interested in techniques for ensuring the security and dependability of service based systems and particularly techniques for assessing security and dependability based on operational evidence and prediction of potential security and dependability threats.

Professor Spanoudakis is the principal investigator of several research projects including the EU Framework 7 projects S-CUBE (Software, Systems and Services Network of Excellence, 2008-12) and SLA@SOI (Empowering the Service Economy with SLA-aware Infrastructures, 2008-11) , and the EU Framework 6 projects SERENITY (Systems Engineering for Security and Dependability, 2006-08), PEPERS (Mobile Peer-to-Peer Security Infrastructure, 2006-08), SECSE (Service-centric System Engineering, 2004-2008), and GREDIA (2006-2009, co-investigator). In the past, he has been the principal investigator or the EPSRC project IMOOSD (1999-2000) and a co-investigator of the research projects NEVIS (funded by CSW Ltd, 2004) and Requirements Traceability (funded by Philips Research Labs-UK, 2001-02). The total funding of his research is in excess of £2.4m. Further details of his funded research projects are available.

Prof. Spanoudakis is an associate editor of the International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering and has served on the programme committees of more than 60 international conferences and workshops. Currently, he is a member of the programme committees of ICWS 2010, Cloud 2010, ESORICS 2010, CLOSER 2010 SEKE 2010, ICSOFT 2010, SAPSE 2010, PESOS 2010, Intensive 2010, SECURWARE 2010, GEOProcessing 2010, ICSE 2010– Research Demos. He has also been the programme committee co-chair of SEKE '07 and SEKE '06.
