..................I have now moved to Imperial College

My research interests lie in; systems architecture and performance. In particular I am interested in operating systems and database management systems as well as next-generation information provision. RAE Publications can be found here!

I am currently affiliated to the Distributed and Intelligent Systems group. I am currently principal investigator for the new Patia Project looking at distributed adaptive web servers. I was principal investigator for the Kendra project investigating how component-based systems can improve Internet performance through self-adapting systems and caching. My current interests lie in component-based operating systems and how this affects other systems architectures (e.g. DBMS).

I was group leader for the former Systems Architecture Research Centre and its successor HiPeX where I was project leader on projects concerned with interoperability and high-performance database systems (see Iriss and Prima). The PRIMA project investigated performance issues in the use of multicomputer architectures for relational database management systems. At my previous university I also looked at the use of hybrid simulation modelling as a means to obtain quick accurate performance predictions in database processing.

Currently within the School of Informatics I am the Chair of the Research Student Committee and Systems Architecture Teaching Domain leader. In the Department of Computing I look after research related aspects and am Senior Tutor for Research. I am part of the University's Course Review Committee. Finally, I am a member of the British Computer Society and the IEEE, and am a Chartered Engineer .

In July 2001 I joined Imperial College's Department of Computing as a Senior Lecturer.
