Dr. Conklin does research in the areas of Data Mining, Bioinformatics, and Music Informatics. Prior to joining City University he worked for many years mining the human genome for novel genes at a biotechnology company in Seattle.

In the Department of Computing at City University, Dr. Conklin designed new courses and taught in Data Mining, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, and Music Informatics, He was also a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Music, where he lectured on the MSc in Music Information Technology. He was group leader of the Music Informatics research group in the Department of Computing. In 2005 he was awarded a City University Staff Research Prize.

In 2010 Dr. Conklin moved to the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Universidad del Pais Vasco, San Sebastian, Spain, where he is a member of the Intelligent Systems Group. He continues collaborations with the Department of Computing under the title of Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow.
