My Curriculum Vitae (CV)

I am a research assistant and cPh.D. at the institute of Computer Science and Business Information Systems (ICB) at the university of Duisburg-Essen in Essen, Germany. At the institute, I am a member of the DAWIS group under the guidance of Professor Dr. Rainer Unland, my supervisor. I started as a Ph.D.-student in the agents-group at the Department of Computing, City University, London. From 1999 to 2002, I was a research fellow of the Fraunhofer institute for secure Telecooperation (FhG-SIT) in Darmstadt, Germany, in order to examine the complex problems of service description and composition in open environments, designed for the support of the project-work of a world-wide dispersed group. My research interest is in Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In my doctoral research, I develop an adaptive and agent based trading framework, called ACTAS, which allows to find current possibilities for communication using methods of AI. My effort is to find a general model for the trading and composition, which can also be applied for other environments like for instance e-business and web-services. In recent time, the later application-areas showed an amazing development in description technology like WSDL, UDDI, OWL-S, and EnTish. I am grateful that my research was supported by scholarships of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) (1 year) and City University (3 years). I am member of the Security Group of FIPA (Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents) and was also member of the Agentcities working group for Service Description and Composition in Agentcities. Agentcities-RTD was a European Commission funded 5th Framework IST Research project which ran from July 2001 - June 2003 and is now complete. Our working group examined service description technologies and analysed their suitability for the Agentcities network. Goal was the development of technical and technology requirements for dynamic service composition. Tutoring and teaching in subjects like Distributed Systems, Software Agents, Java, System Architecture, Data Bases, and Principles of Programming Languages extended my skills. I am further the representative of the doctoral students of the Computing Department at City University.

My Publications

Until the end of 2002, I was also a researcher at the Institute for Secure Telecooperation of the Fraunhofer society (FhG-SIT) in Darmstadt, Germany,. This gave me the opportunity to apply my research work in the context of the European Research Project “Ubiquitous and Integrated Teamwork Environment” (UNITE) (IST-2000-25436) and the FhG-SIT research area “Cooperative Rooms” (COR). These projects are concerned with the support of geographically dispersed project teams and virtual organizations.

In 1998, I graduated with distinction as Diplom-Informatiker (equal with MSc) at the University of Hagen, Germany. In my diploma thesis, I extended a Type Concept for Prolog in order to support module and meta oriented software engineering in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Main subjects of my studies were Distributed Systems and Data Bases. In theoretic informatics, I consolidated my knowledge about efficient algorithms for general and graphic applications. My already existing programming skills in imperative programming, I extended in the directions of module-oriented, object-oriented, and declarative programming. In order to complete my studies successfully, I enrolled also in two subsidiary subjects, which were electrical engineering and business economic.

The modern studying system of the University of Hagen supported distance studying. This did not only allow me to work as a student assistant and as a scientific assistant at the university, but it gave me further the opportunity to combine my studies with an employment in the industry. From 1987 to 1994, I was system-analyst and programmer at Telenorma GmbH (Bosch Telecom) in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. I was able to gain a widespread vocational experience during this time. As a system-analyst and later system-manager, I was responsible for the building and management of several VAX/VMS clusters including their network access via DECNET and TCP/IP. I programmed system-software in Digital Command Language (DCL) and VAX-Pascal. In this context, I created a batch-queue based agent-system for system-support, including handling of the SCSI-interface. Another tool, which lead already in the current direction of my research, was a tool for the distributed work with error-reports, using notes and data bases. I was further in charge for the testing and introduction of work-planning systems. Costumer support and consulting belonged always to my tasks.

My career of being a computer scientist started with an education as a stately proofed Technical Assistant of Computer Science at the Education Centre for Computer Science (b.i.b.) in Paderborn, Germany, from 1985 to 1987. The comprehensive course, which was considered as an alternative to a study at university, included not only practical skills like programming in Pascal, Cobol, Fortran, and Assembler, but also founded theoretical subjects dealing with mathematics, theories of compiler and operating systems. Applications of the information technology in technical, economic, and scientific areas were treated with. Business economic was a further subject of the education. In the context of Software Engineering, I developed and documented a system for timetable planning.
