The annual European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR 2006) is the main European forum for the presentation of new research results in the field of Information Retrieval. The conference encourages the submission of high quality research papers reporting original, previously unpublished results.

The event started its life as a colloquium in 1978 and was held in the UK each year until 1998 when the event was held in Grenoble, France. Since then the venue has alternated between the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. To mark the metamorphosis from a small informal colloquium to a major event in the IR research calendar, the event was later renamed to European Conference on Information Retrieval. In recent years, ECIR has continued to grow and has become the major European forum for the discussion of research in the field of Information Retrieval.

The conference took take place at Imperial College London between Monday 10th and Wednesday 12th April 2006 (before Easter).

The proceedings are published by Springer-Verlag, the details are available Online. There are a number of surplus copies of the proceedings for the conference, if you would like to purchase a copy or copies please contact Alexei Yavlinsky or Simon Overell or through Amazon Marketplace
