How to apply

Entrance Requirements

Our typical conditional offer for applicants taking GCE A Levels is 320 UCAS tariff points excluding key skills (eg BBB or BBC plus extra AS at grade C). When making a decision we evaluate all aspects of the application, such as the personal statement, reference and relevant work experience, not solely exam grades.

Science, technology and mathematics subjects are preferred, and at least one such subject should be offered; though all subject combinations will be considered on their merits. We are happy to make unconditional offers to applicants who already hold suitable qualifications.

We welcome applicants offering other qualifications such as the BTEC National Diploma in relevant subjects (a typical offer is DDM) and the International Baccalaureate (29 IB points), again taking subject profile, personal statement etc into account.

We usually require applicants to present at least 18 units (eg three A levels) or equivalent.

We do not accept GCEs in general studies or in any foreign language that is the first language of the applicant.

We have a minimum requirement of Grade C in GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics.

Key skills will not usually form part of conditional offers, but will be taken into account if the applicant falls short of the stated offer.

Overseas and non-standard qualifications and applications from mature students will be considered on an individual basis. Although we aim to be flexible, decisions will be made on the basis of equivalence to our GCE intake.

Full details of Admissions Policy are online.

English Language requirements

If your first language is not English, we will require evidence of your English language proficiency.

TOEFL: 550 (paper-based)
TOEFL: 213 (computer-based)
TOEFL: 80 (internet-based)

Candidates with international qualifications may be required to undertake a suitable foundation course in order to be eligible for study at City.
