Distributed and Intelligent Systems
Aim: the principled design and investigation of distributed and intelligent systems technologies, shaping them to the demands of problems in business, engineering, bio-informatics, and the creative industries.
In the 1996-2000 period, current staff have attracted over £1.1million of external research funding, including over £600,000 from the EPSRC. Research projects since 1996 include:
- EPSRC projects: GR/M65007, PATIA GR/N38008 , KENDRA GR/K91163 , GR/M88433, GR/L99029, GR/N06229, TOPS (awarded by EPSRC/BBSRC), GR/M77888 (awarded by EPSRC/DERA), Visiting Research Fellowship to the EBI
- EU projects: 2 EU Marie Curie Fellowships
- Other projects: DERA, Wellcome Trust, SUPANET, GenRad
Key research themes include:
- distributed intelligent technologies – high performance systems and multi-agent systems
- creativity and the creative industries, focusing on musical creativity
- bio-informatics – pattern matching and discovery algorithms
