Welcome to the Department of Computing
The Department of Computing conducts internationally acknowledged research, education and technology transfer in computing, with some bias towards software engineering, intelligent systems and computational methods, agents and business systems engineering. We are concerned with the development and application of principles, methods, techniques and tools for the construction of computing systems and with the improvement of business processes through the application of IT.
The Department is home to around 600 full and part-time students and offers a distinctive and wide portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The undergraduate portfolio includes BSc courses in Computer Science (with specialisations in Games Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Distributed Systems), Business Computing Systems, Information Systems and Software Engineering.
The postgraduate portfolio includes MSc degrees in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Software Engineering, e-Business Systems, and Business System Analysis and Design.
Most students on undergraduate courses spend periods on professional placements organised through strong departmental links with a wide range of companies, particularly those in the City of London. Graduates of both undergraduate and masters courses are highly employable, and a high percentage of our masters students are originally recruited through companies employing our graduates.
The Department uses a mixed network of Sun servers, Apple Macs and Intel PCs running Unix, Linux and Windows XP. Students have free access to these facilities. Most course materials are online and available through the teaching web site
