Invitation to Careers Advisor Event on Artificial Intelligence (5th May 2004)
Dear Advisor
The British Computer Society's Specialist Group on Artificial Intelligence (BCS SGAI) and our partners below would like to invite you and relevant colleagues to a careers advisor event on Artificial Intelligence. It will be held at City University, London on Wednesday 5th May 2004 (starts 12.30 for 1pm). The event is aimed at:
- Careers Advisors (this is aimed at 16-18 advisors, but those advising other groups will find this useful)
- Computing and IT teachers who may be presented with such queries by their students
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a dynamic and stimulating field combining aspects of computing, philosophy, neuroscience, psychology and linguistics. It is thus of wide interest to students, especially for study at HE, and we hope to help advisors handle student enquiries about this field.
Purpose of the Event
We aim to provide careers advisors with the information needed to advise clients interested in pursuing careers and/or studying courses in AI.
After the event you will be able to:
- Describe and appreciate what Artificial Intelligence is and the ways it is applied, e.g., fraud detection, robotics;
- Advise students appropriately regarding the varied routes of study in AI, especially at HE level;
- Advise students as to the diverse range of careers available in AI and related fields, e.g., games, medicine;
- Access a range of resources on AI for both careers advisors and their clients.
Attendance is free. Coffee and cakes will be provided at the event.
